U.S. ACADEMICSAcademic ProgramsCalifornia Opera’s primary focus is to identify, recruit, train, present and shepherd the opera world’s most outstanding singers to International and Grand Opera careers. Artists are selected to participate based on audition and materials that demonstrate performing ability, experience, desire to excel in the field, and potential to positively contribute to the future of the traditional, yet changing face of opera in both local and international venues. Meet The Faculty > Professional Collegiate California Opera offers opportunities for students of opera to audition
and compete for funds that can be applied to college expenses. The
opera also encourages students to participate in workshop, master-class,
private consultation and training through Festival, Casting, Audition,
and Guest Artist experiences. Apprentice positions are available in
stage direction, stage management, make-up and costuming, youth programs
and in administrative and management positions. Teen Opera COA will hold the 7th Annual Summer Arts & Education
Festival that
includes up to 100 hours of study for young singers who are becoming
more serious about their investment in the craft. Each year, a single
class of up to 20 teens are selected to participate in the summer
teen opera fee-based program. Children's Programs The Youth program enrolls up to 40 children annually to participate
in children’s
operas, “opera art” courses, children’s chorus, and special
events. Every Fall, the opera offers, in conjunction with the Department of Parks
and Recreation, “All City Panorama Days” an after-school program
open fee-free to all school ages. During the summer, a youth tailored fee-based
program involves up to 20 select young talent who endearingly refer to this time
as “opera camp.”
